Welcome to the Design Technology Subject Area. Over the years students will experience a range of 'Design and Make' challenges, which will prepare them to participate in tomorrow's rapidly changing technologies. They will learn to think and intervene creatively to improve quality of life by making things that people want and that work well. Design Technology is a highly exciting, inventive and fun subject. Students get the opportunity to design and make products of their choice.
The Year 7 curriculum provides opportunities for students to experience the seven areas of technology, Food, Resistant Materials, Graphic Design, Electronics, Textiles, ICT and Computer Control, working with a variety of materials - wood, metal, plastic, electronic components, card and fabrics. We are equipped to give students hands on experience of industrial processes and raise their awareness of CAD & CAM (Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture).
At the end of Year 9 students will then opt to start their chosen GCSE course. At Etone we offer a GCSE in Food, Graphics and Textilersor resistant materials technology.
Design Technology goes beyond the classroom. In our extra curricular programme we aim to stretch our students by providing a wider enriched curriculum in the form of trips, competitions, visits, study support classes and early GCSE/future entry to AS exams. Over the past year Design Technology students have excelled previous performances and produced a range of impressive results.
