Drama is taught at Etone across both Key Stage 3 and 4. We are unusual in that Drama is taught as a separate lesson in Key Stage 3 and not as a part of English.

At Key Stage 4 Drama is very popular and this year we had fantastic results of 87% A-C and 100% A-G. It is taught by one member of staff and a teaching assistant. Drama is taught in a purpose built studio that was re-decorated last year. We have some lighting equipment and a growing costume and props store. We have a wall mounted PC and a projector which is used in most lessons.

In Years 7-9 students learn basic skills in half-termly projects. The projects offer a range of opportunities for students to succeed and find an area/performance type they enjoy. The projects include; Pantomime, Greek theatre, silent movies, mask workshops, advertising, script work, abstract theatre and physical theatre. These all tie in with GCSE course skills.

At GCSE we have 2 option groups for EDEXCEL Drama course, which is gaining popularity each year. The students study genres, history of theatre and directing and acting skills. They take part in local Drama festivals and go out to London and Local theatres to see shows and plays. The course is 100% practical and the students are assessed on their directing and acting skills and a Drama diary that they keep as they make their plays.

Last year we ran the school's production of Oliver! which was very successful, running for four nights and a matinee. Students from all ages and abilities took part and the photos and film version will soon be available for the students. This year we are going to stage "Bugsy Malone" in the summer and I am on the hunt for talent in my classes…

There are also Dance and Drama clubs available for the students at lunch and after school that are held through "Create" a group which bring performing arts to schools.
