Music is an enjoyable subject that is taught to all students at key stage 3 covering a range of topics such as how to compose Film Music, Music Technology, Dance Music, Blues Music, Music of Java and Bali, Indian Classical Music and Pop music.   In 2006 we received national recognition with an Artsmark Silver award for our work as part of the Creative Arts CLA.

For students wishing to continue with their music studies in key stage 4, students can study GCSE Music in years 10 and 11.  GCSE Music involves understanding and enjoying learning to play a musical instrument as well as learning about various styles and genres of music throughout the centuries.

In 2006, 70% of students studying GCSE music achieved A* - C grades with 100% of these students achieving A* - G grades.

The Music subject area is very well resourced and has a full compliment of state-of-the-art musical keyboards donated by Yamaha, as part of our role as a Yamaha Music School, as well as having many guitars, percussion instruments, steel pans, a drum kit, computers fully-loaded with music software and many other musical instruments.

At the end of the July 2006, a 'Battle of the bands' took place out on the school decking in which many bands took part to compete for the title of 'Best Band of Etone', many students learnt to play their instruments in Etone's very own 'School of Rock' ran by Mr. Frearson (subject leader for Music).

Students in all years can learn to play a musical instrument such as the flute, piano, guitar, drum kit, violin and voice.  We even have a range of extra-curricular clubs including Orchestra, Guitar club, Music Technology club and a GCSE coursework club.  Starting form September 2006, there will be a Drum-club where students can come to learn to play the drums.  As you can see, there is no limit to what students of Etone can do in the Music subject area!!!
